2020 APEC YES Challenge is oriented in the following principles.

*As the official language of APEC, English will be used during all activities of 2020 APEC YES Challenge.

Who ?

 
  •  2020 APEC YES Challenge welcomes all undergraduate,graduate and postgraduate students with mentors.
  •  At least two students and one mentors for each team, however, limited by five students, and three mentors who are not limited in academic circle.
  •  The teams from related APEC member economies are especially welcomed to attend YES Challenge.
  •  We suggest that teams may consist of interdisciplinary members.
 
 

Registration & Preliminary Round

Each team is supposed to upload two A4 pages of the preliminary plan that matches with the requirements of competition. Please download the format of the preliminary plan from our website, finish it and upload it before 30 June 2020 31 July 2020. Max 5MB PDF file. Format link : Download

Marking Criteria

  • The chairman of referee committee of ACABT will invite ten academic and business specialists of green economy across APEC economies to score the preliminary plans. Each referee will score 100 points based on the following four principles. The chairman will organize the committee, not directly scoring by case, but be engaged in judging the tie-up situations through implementing simple voting.
    • Innovative Insights (25 pts) : Capable of finding key community problems related to social and environmental issues of green economy or green energy.
    • Context Reasoning (25 pts) : Capable of reasoning the contexts of problems and their long-term influences.
    • Feasibility of Innovation (25 pts) : Capable of proposing innovative and feasible ideas, methods, activities, or business models for solving the problems.
    • Changes and Impacts (25 pts) : Capable of mapping the changes of and impacts on community after the project implementation.
  • Notices
    • All scores will be summed up. The top 20 teams, in which no more than 2 teams in each APEC economy, will be enrolled in the semi-final. APEC ACABT will publish the enrolled list on 20 July 2020 20 August 2020. ACABT has the right and final decision to select the funding teams.

Marking Criteria

  • The online scoring will be weighted in following categories :
    • Content (50 pts)：The referees will be randomly grouped in two modules to score the content of learning requirements according to the four principles of preliminary round at the end of each module time period. The content is concluded the essays of Module1&2 and learning result video.
    • Participation (30 pts)：The module-grouped referees score the participation quantity and quality according to the requirements in the MOOC guidebook.
    • Peer Review (20 pts)：The teams review and score each other according to the requirements of the MOOC guidebook.
  • Notices
    • The finalist list of 2020 APEC YES Challenge will be published on 10 November 2020. The offline final pitch will be held in Chinese Taipei on December 18-21. ACABT will subsidy 2 participants for each finalist teams to join the event. It is included the round-trip airfare (economic class), accommodation and the meals as shown in the schedule. ACABT welcomes other team members to participate in the final pitch at their own expenses.
 
 

Semi-Final

  • MOOC guidebook will be published on 17 July 2020 20 August, 2020 after 2pm (GMT+8) including the requirements of courses, materials, procedure, work formats, learning frequency, time intervals, norm and standard of scoring. The learning activities are:
    • Actively participating and mutually sharing on the MOOC in two modules of learning.
    • Presenting the learning result, uploading a film of no more than 2 minutes (expected to present it in form of ppt, prezi, keynote, or video; etc.).

    • Film Submission: Upload the film on "Semi-Pitch Yes Course " platform.If you failed to upload the video on the platform, please send an email to us (apecyeschallenge@gmail.com) as soon as possible and provide a private link for downloading the video to complete this task in the timelines.
    • Copyrights of all films and works belong to the authors, but the organizer has the right to use these materials for the purpose of public advantages.
    • The accumulated points of each team will be constantly updated on a performance dashboard at any time.
    • ACABT will subsidy 2 participants for each finalist teams to join the final pitch. It is included the round-trip airfare (economic class), accommodation and the meals as shown in the schedule. ACABT has the right and final decision to select the funding teams.

    • Content (20 pts)：The referees will score the content of the learning requirements according to the four principles of preliminary round at the end of the module time period.
    • Participation (5 pts)：The referees score the participation quantity and quality according to the requirements in the MOOC guidebook.
    • Peer Review (5 pts)：The teams review and score each other according to the requirements of the MOOC guidebook.
  • Offline Final Pitch
  • The offline presentations at the Final Pitch (70 pts): Including workshop reports, business plans and on-site presentations. (The program and scoring rules will be published after the finalist announcement.)
  • Notice on ICT Needs funding
  • Due to the COVID-19 pandemic circumstances, no cross-border travel is required for the event this year. The Speakers/Experts/Participants (funded by APEC Project) who need to travel from oversea to Chinese Taipei will participate in the form of the virtual meeting without any funded travel expenses including airfare and per diem or any other related expenses.

    APEC Secretariat will only be able to provide funding for ICT needs on a case-by-case basis for invited active Participants who are sited in remote areas where Wi-Fi/communication networks are not robust. Please read the important information as follows:

  • Number of persons to be nominated to apply the ICT needs items on a case by case basis for APEC funded Project PPSTI 06 2019A
    • Maximum 2 persons from each of the 11 travel-eligible economies, are eligible to apply for the ICT needs
    • Please note that if one economy has more than one team selected as the finalist team for the Offline Project-based Training Program, then each team will only nominate one person of each team. While one economy has only one team selected as the finalist team for the Offline Project-based Training Program, then this team could nominate 2 persons.
    • The APEC travel eligible economies are Chile, the People’s Republic of China, Indonesia, Malaysia, Mexico, Papua New Guinea, the Philippines, Peru, the Russian Federation, Thailand, and Viet Nam.
  • Only fund ICT needs items on case by case basis without any travel expenses and related expenses
  • The ICT items include mini-cameras for laptops, mini desk-top speakers, SIM cards for strong Wi-Fi connection and should not cost more than US$20. Anything beyond this amount should be on rental basis and returned to APEC Secretariat as its funding assets.
  • Procedure to apply the ICT needs fund
    • The teams applying for the ICT needs are required to inform APEC-ACABT the information of the nominee(s) via email (joycewang.acabt@gmail.com, Ms. Joyce Wang) before approaching APEC Secretariat by 14 November 2020.
    • After the status of applicants has been approved by the Project Overseer, APEC-ACABT will assist the nominee(s) and the nominee(s) to proceed the further action on the follow-up matters.
    • Nominee(s) is to submit a strong justification for the need to purchase these items, and to submit three quotations to the APEC Secretariat Program Director for approval before purchase.

Final Pitch

  • Final Pitch is divided into 2 parts (Online and Offline). For the online final pitch, please upload Final Pitch Proposal or a film of no more than 2 minutes (expected to present it in form of ppt, prezi, keynote, or video; etc.)
  • For the offline Final Pitch: Attend a 3-day Event in Taichung, including a workshop, offline final pitch presentation and demo site visit/technical tour.
